Round 8 of State League
Round 8 was a replay of round 1, where our Premier teams played the Eastside Hawks. Back then our Premier Men lost against the Hawks in 4 sets, but today we left the Hawks with no chance and beat them in 3 sets! Erich and the rest of the backcourt made a big step up and passed pretty well. Michael played a pretty nice game, as did Ben, our second setter. Of course, I wish I had gotten more balls through the middle, but Dean and I did our best to block the other team and to draw their blocks. On the outside, our 2 Toms, Jermaine and Gerard showed some solid hitting. The first set was relatively open, but we used our first set point to win 25-23 (I love those over-passes ;) I think we showed a very strong performance in the second set and left no doubt who would win this match. We (I) could have done with a few less serving errors in the third set, but again we used our first set point to win the match.
Overall we had 4 wins and 4 losses this round. Our Premier Women lost against Eastside in 4 sets. Our Reserves Men lost in 3 sets against Mornington and our Div 2 Men lost against Monash University also in 3 sets. However, our Reserves Women beat the Falcons in 3 sets and our Div 2 Women also had a clear win against Mornington (3 sets). Finally, the match between our two U/17 teams was won by the Blue team (3-0).
Next Saturday our Premier teams will have a clash with our favourite rival: Heidelberg!
